Operation Kutusov , a 28mm WW2 demo/participation game for salute 2012

To coincide with the our expansion to the WW2 Russian range, we decided to put together a game for at Salute 2012 and hopefully at other shows we attend round the UK..

I'll be adding updates during the coming weeks showing the progress made towards the game.

Meanwhile here's a brief intro to the game and some photos of a few of the new 28mm Russian vehiclesThe brief has kindley been put together by Phil Grey of the C20th Wargames Society Wargames Group who will be helping to run the game for us .

Operation Kutusov

The defeat of the German Summer Offensive at Kursk is followed up by Operation Kutusov - to push the Fascist Invaders back to the Dnieper river line.

As part of this, the 9th Tank Corps, with attached rifle brigade and Army artillery support, is attacking hastily prepared German positions. Having spent two weeks training for a night action the attack is, naturally, launched at dawn. Soviet forces need to clear the two lines of villages and take the settlement of Veselaya Kalina, located at the edge of the forest, which controls the road through the dense woodland.

The assault is going in over partly harvested wheatfields, with the village of Posadka to the fore, and Taborische and Breznyak to the left flank...

Join Leitnant Vasily Krysov and his comrades in the 1454th and smash the Fascists!

German strength is unknown, but it is expected the fascists will die hard they usually do.

With the thunder of hooves, rumble of wheels,whiny of horses and cries of the crew one of the ancient worlds most terrifying weapons surges into battle.

The four horse scythed chariots have been unleashed.

These fearsome weapons were probably first used by the Achaemenid Persians during the Greek and Persian wars between 467 BC and 458 BC, as a response to the massed ranks of Greek hoplites.They were later deployed by the Macedonian Successor Seleucid Empire against the Republican Romans but with little or no effect against the well disciplined ranks or Roman legionaries.

New 28mm Greek Wargame Figures from 1st Corps

I recently received some pics of the latest 1^st Corps Greeks painted by Simon, 1^st Corps very own wargame figure caster extraordinaire and expert paint flicker.

Simon has shown just what is possible with the new Spartan and Greek 28mm wargame figures from 1^st Corps in these stunning vignettes (and yes he does game these). The detail is as always, on a 1st Corps mini crisp and well defined; these really are painter’s figures.

The Greek shields are worth a special mention in themselves. The detail at the back is stunning. In my opinion these are quite possibly the best 28mm ancient shields I have seen.

The Battle Cry of Freedom. Painting First Corps 28mm American Civil War Miniatures

For a change from painting ancient wargame miniatures I thought I’d start a new project. As we’ve been going through the 1st Corps American Civil War range, of 28mm wargame figures, re-moulding it, I thought now might the time to start gaming the ACW period.

We plan on fielding a couple of infantry brigades a side with supporting mounted and dismounted cavalry and artillery.

Its going to be a long project but I thought I’d start off with a few command stands so I could show off some of the excellent flags by Battle Flag from the Trans Mississippi (Confederate) and Excelsior (Union Foreign Regiments) wargame flag sheets .
The figures are based up for the Fire and Fury rules set but will also be used for the Regimental Fire and Fury wargame rules variant.

I’ve chosen to paint the figures of the officers, standard bearers and drummers in fairly pristine uniforms for the ACW command group bases and will do more of the rank and file miniatures in campaign dress, especially the Confederate figures.

Colours used are mostly from the excellent Foundry range of wargame paint range over a black spray primer . Main colours used to paint the models were…
